Who's Your Daddy?

As humans, we find the disciplines of Christ Followers much more appealing than others. The idea of meditation and contemplation is cool. As soon as we start talking about obedience and coming under the gracious authority of God, all of a sudden we have moved out of the cool realm. Here’s why? In popular culture, obedience is looked at in completely negative terms.  “you must fight the man.” It’s a right of passage to not be under your parent’s authority. We define freedom from constraints that would keep us from fulfilling our hearts desire.

Almost every American says, I can judge what is right for me, I and I alone can judge what spiritual path is right for me, I and I alone can determine what is right or wrong for me.  My heart, my conscious is the only thing that can determine that. Therefore, I am my own spiritual authority. I don’t give that up to anyone. That’s a problem.

This discipline says you don’t get that change unless you come under the authority of God.  In other words, God's your Daddy!
