He never simply says don’t slander, don’t be bias against the poor. He always goes to the heart not to the will. This is the secret to living the life of a Christ follower. James is going to ask us, “are you a slanderous/judgmental person?” If you are judgmental, of course he say stop it, but it’s not because you are bad, you don’t get the gospel. Your heart has been untouched by the core of the gospel itself.

James doesn’t let us off the hook by saying, “you are a bad person.” He is saying, you don’t understand! Here’s what he is doing for us this morning, he is going to start off and say, here is good communication and he will lay out a blue print for our behavior. He won’t lay out the blue print and “do it.” He lays out there and says, “here’s how you become a person like this.
