Communities Of Grace

Every week in this series we have learned that the people receiving this letter live in an urban setting. They are weary and broken and struggling. Life has been tough and they are ready to throw in the towel.

We have also learned every week that  the writer is giving us something that helps face these struggles and giving them something solid to stand on while the ground is shaking under their feet. As we read this part of the letter, it seems different than what we have been learning. Now it looks like we are getting a “to do” list on how to be in the church.

Actually, it is saying that we will never make it without a community to support us and care for us. We need to have deep and robust community with people who have experienced the grace of God. One of our values is authentic community and this is something we strongly believe in. We define authentic community this way:

Community is to know one another, and to be truly known. All Saints is a community of people getting to know one     another while we explore together what it means to be a Christ follower. All Saints welcomes all who believe, doubt and seek, no matter their background, religious experience, or place on their life-journey.
