In 9:22 (“without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins) is where our culture today has a huge issue with Christianity. When modern people hear that God requires blood to quench his wrath it sounds disgusting, ancient, gross and lamely religious.

This where God gets his vampire reputation as a blood thirsty entity that needs blood. People say, we already have a bloody world, we need love and an up, up and away kind of message to relieve us from this dirty, bloody, messy, violent world.

The book of Hebrews says there is power in the blood of Jesus, without the shedding of Jesus’ blood we wouldn’t know a few things: the depth of our problem, the power of God’s solution, the extent of the transformation that can happen in us.
