Being Before Doing

Living without prejudice, bias or judgement is something that we all (hopefully) strive to not let cloud our love for people and each other. Unfortunately, it is ingrained in us. James addresses it and calls it sin. Ouch! The text this week is a challenge for all of us to not show partiality in any form. Once again, James does not dance around the issue, instead he calls us all to make sure we are looking in the mirror (Bible) and know who we are and what we are capable of so we can actually do what the Bible says. In other words, a changed lifestyle flows out of a radical understanding of who you are. Thankfully, we have Jesus and through him we are able to understand how wrecked we are and how loved we are at the same time. This knowledge then allows us to live without judgement and partiality.
