And Still More About Trouble
We continue our work through troubles. This week James gives us two case studies in dealing with trouble. The first is the person who goes through an economic difficulty and the second is a person who has prospered in many ways.
One of the more difficult things for a culture like ours is to grasp the concept of joy in suffering/trouble. Essentially, the Bible teaches that the greatest trial of all is no trouble! Going through life "relatively trouble free," is not a blessing according to James. The blessing comes when we deal with trouble and it teaches how to deal with life. We gain wisdom and understanding. That is the blessing, we become wiser people.
When we are dealing with trouble it shows us the fading things that we use that cause us to fade as well. We can finally learn to say, "I am glad I had to go through that ordeal." Now, this is where we see the faithfulness of Jesus as he suffered for our sakes, he gives us the power to walk through each and and every trial and trouble knowing that we have something real and unfading...Jesus!
